A geospatial dataset mapping river systems in the Greater Mekong Subregion. Attributes include: name of river, name of basin, name of sub-basin, Strahler number.
Various climate, hydro-meteorological, ecological, and socio-economic datasets are synthesized and made available for the Mekong River Basin. The sources of each dataset were also mentioned in the associated readme file.
Dam data, inundation data, and Cambodia census data can be made available upon request to the authors.
This excel sheet is a data profile of all SEZs in Lower Mekong Countries created by Open Development Mekong. Data includes location, size, types of industries, country of investors, amount of investment, etc.

This dataset describes hourly time series of discharge and suspended sediment flux at four sites in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta (Chau Doc, Tan Chau, Can Tho and My Thaun) for the period 2005 – 2015. This data was calculated from historic Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (aDcp)data obtained as part of routine flood monitoring conducted by the Vietnamese Hydrological Agency. The data were collated by the authors. The data were processed to back out sediment fluxes through the delta through calibration of the acoustic backscatter signal to suspended sediment concentrations collected in Chau Doc (May 2017) and Can Tho (September 2017). For each aDcp instrument acoustic backscatter signal was calibrated to observed suspended sediment concentrations (SSCs). These concentrations values were then matched to measured acoustic backscatter values (dB) from the depth at which each sample was taken to generate power law calibration curves. To generate daily fluxes, the point specific ADCP fluxes were used to generate sediment ratings curves between sediment flux (kg/s) and discharge (m3/s). These ratings curves were then propagated over recorded daily discharge values measured by the Vietnamese hydrological agency to provide daily fluxes over the period of record. The work was funded through NERC grant reference NE/P008100/1 - Deciphering the dominant drivers of contemporary relative sea-level change: Analysing sediment deposition and subsidence in a vulnerable mega-delta. This Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of the Vietnamese part of the Mekong delta was interpolated using almost 20.000 elevation points derived from a national topographical map of 2014 (scale 1:200,000). The elevation data is vertically referenced to the Vietnam's geodetic Hon Dau datum, which has its elevation origin at mean sea level (MSL) of the Hon Dau tide gauge. The DEM was interpolated from the topographical elevation points using empirical Bayesian kriging employing empirical data transformation and an exponential model. Elevation points with elevations higher than +10m, located on elevated bedrock outcrops were excluded from the interpolation. Rivers and bedrock outcrops were clipped from the final DEM. For more details on the elevation data, the interpolation procedure and data processing steps, see the corresponding paper and supplementary information. […]

This dataset is a comprehensive open-access database of 1,055 georeferenced dams in the Mekong basin, with detailed dam attributes such as dam status, dam height, reservoir volume, and dam capacity. The dams are compiled from 18 databases (six global, five regional, and seven national), validated using satellite imagery in Google Earth, and supplemented with information from public literature (reports, research papers, news articles, and websites). Additional attributes including dam elevation and dam catchment area are added through GIS analysis. The dataset also contains five files for spatiotemporal analysis, with each file corresponding to the dams in each decade from the 1980s to post-2020s. Post-2020s includes dams that began operation in 2020 or later, dams under construction, and planned dams with available information. All files are in comma-separated values (CSV) format.

This data collection consists of a survey from three main groups of MRC stakeholders including the public sector, private sector, and civil society sector who attended the 9th MRC Regional Stakeholder Forum held by the Mekong River Commission on 5-6 February 2020 in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR. There were 105 participants which 38 participants agreed to respond to the questionnaire, representing 36.19 %. Participants came from mainly four countries including Lao PDR, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam as the member countries of MRC. The survey covers details of the MRC stakeholders’ perception of collaborative governance, governance principles of natural resources management, and outcomes.
In the production period of 2022/2023, the estimated production volume of rice in the Mekong Delta in Vietnam amounted to around 23.75 million metric tons. In the 2023/2024 period, the rice produced in the region was forecasted to reach around 24 million metric tons. Consisting of 12 provinces, the Mekong Delta is the most critical area for rice production in Vietnam.
